Avenue PD is a full-service specialty pediatric dentistry practice with the expertise to shepherd your child’s oral health from their first visit through to young adulthood.

During your first visit, you and your child will have the opportunity to meet the team and to explore our clinic. We'll also conduct a dental exam and take any necessary x-rays. Dr. Perusini will then sit down with you to review everything, answering any questions you may have.

Check-ups and cleanings

You do not need a referral to come see us! We provide regular check-ups and cleanings for children of any age, as well as children and adults with special healthcare needs.

Infant oral care

Prevention is the best medicine. We encourage you to bring your baby in within six months of the eruption of the first tooth (or by one year of age). We have extensive experience caring for babies and providing parents with guidance to help prevent dental disease and set your infant up for a lifetime of healthy teeth.

Extractions and
minor oral surgery

Dr. Perusini is comfortable performing minor surgical procedures including biopsies, soft-tissue surgery and extraction of teeth. Your child’s tooth may need to be removed in cases where it is: (1) severely broken down and cannot be adequately restored, (2) infected, (3) impacted in the bone and negatively affecting adjacent teeth or structures, or (4) indicated for orthodontic reasons.

Fillings and crowns

Our office provides a full range of restorative dental care including composite resin (white), amalgam (silver), stainless steel crowns and acrylic-faced crowns. The indications, pros and cons of each of these materials will be reviewed with you during your child’s consultation.

Space management

If your child prematurely loses one or more primary teeth, our team may advise the use of a space maintainer. Space maintainers help prevent space loss, which can have a long-term effect on the eruption of permanent teeth.

Nitrous oxide sedation

Nitrous oxide or laughing gas is a safe and effective mild sedative that can help manage mild anxiety and make your child’s dental experience more positive.

General anesthesia

Depending on your child’s dental needs, age or level of anxiety, you may choose to pursue treatment under general anesthesia in an operating room. Treatment requiring general anaesthesia is completed in one appointment at a surgical centre or Stollery Children’s Hospital. The anesthetic will be administered by a fully licensed, board certified medical anesthesiologist.
